The Kraken Awakes

Beneath the pounding waves
Below the crashing surf,
The Kraken awakes.
Monstrous coils stir,
Giant scales slide
As it moves.
Lesser creatures:
Fish, squid, crabs and octopi
Take fright, and dash
Into the shadows.
The Kraken rises;
Shaking, as it does,
The years' growth of plants and weed
And rising, parts the misty depths
With thrashings of its huge sides.
The waters stir and boil;
The surface shudders.
Colossal waves race from shore to shore
And back, colliding with a thunderous roar,
That's heard, on mountains, land and distant seas.
All the while, the Kraken rises.
